Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed organised what came to be recognised as the first rock ânâ roll concert. The NME (New Musical Express) went on sale in the UK for the first time, and Ian Fleming published his novel âCasino Royaleâ which heralded the arrival of secret agent 007, aka James Bond.
