American Freedom Distillery, and Horse Soldier Bourbon, were created by six retired Special Forces Veterans from Tampa Bay, where they have a 16,000 square foot establishment. The bourbon itself is distilled and aged in Ohio, though, as Florida is a tad bit too warm to age bourbon properly.
Horse Soldier Small Batch is an extraordinarily complex whisky, with notes of vanilla, ginger, and cherries. It is aĀ āwheatedā bourbon, made from small batches of meticulously blended mature whiskey. The whiskey is non-chill filtered to provide a full-bodied and decadent finish.
Horse Soldier Small Batch Bourbon Tasting Notes:
Aroma:Ā Butterscotch leads the nose on this sip as ginger snaps mingle with rich and sharp toffee candies next to a touch of vanilla, pepper, and cherry lurking underneath everything.
Palate: The taste really amps up the creaminess of the vanilla and the butteriness of the toffee, as a slight marzipan flourish arrives with a thin layer of freshly cracked black pepper and salted black licorice.
Finish: That pepper marries to the ginger as the heat levels off and fades out leading towards a finish with more of the vanilla and dry wood than anything else.
A solid, all-around good bourbon whiskey. Thereās a nice balance of sweet, spice, and herbal notes that really help this shine as a great Manhattan or Sazerac cocktail
