The first release in the distillery's new Cask Collection, Craigellachie 13 Year Old Bas-Armagnac Cask Finish is initially aged in American Oak – a combination of re-fill and re-char Bourbon barrels – and then laid to rest in Bas-Armagnac casks sourced from the northernmost part of Gascony, in France, for just over a year, to undergo a second period of maturation. Inspired by the distillery's use of worm tub condensers, this expression shows off the spirit's familiarly bold profile that is imparted by said condensers in all its glory.
Craigellachie 13 YO Bas-Armagnac Finish Tasting Notes:
Aroma: Nectarine, flamed orange peel, toffee pennies, a hint of tobacco.
Palate: Fragrant wood with a touch of smoke to it, mellowed by vanilla tablet and shortbread. A good crackle of peppercorn and some oily malt.
Finish: Freshly-crushed cooking spices, cedar, honeycomb.
